Gustav Schübeck-Scholarship

Thomas Ebert / DAAD

In accordance with instructions left in her last will and testament, Prof. Dr. Ursula Ewald bequeathed an endowment to the DAAD-Stiftung to establish the “Gustav Schübeck Scholarship (1899-1918)”.

Professor Ewald established the endowment to help advance the aim of “Supporting the Future”. The grant enables German students to gain new impressions on a study visit abroad, become acquainted with foreign cultures and participate in international dialogue. The scholarship is named after her uncle who died at the young age of 19 during the First World War. Gustav Schübeck didn’t have the opportunity to study abroad.

The scholarship is primarily intended for German graduates and PhD students who wish to write their dissertations in the fields of Economic and Social History, or Economic and Social Geography. The research visits should take place, if possible, in Latin America, Spain or Portugal.

Professor Ewald regarded peaceful relations between different cultures as an important contribution to international understanding. Consequently, she was deeply committed to supporting the goals and values of the DAAD-Stiftung.
